First Visit
We are honored that you have chosen Tots to Teens Pediatric Dentistry to take care of your child’s dental needs, especially if this is their first dental visit ever! We always recommend establishing a “dental home” for children when they are young, preferably around one year old. When a child visits the same dental practice every six months, the office and the routine starts to feel familiar, and it helps kids feel less afraid and more likely to continue positive oral hygiene habits as they age. If you still need to schedule your child’s first visit with us, please reach out to our front office, and we will be happy to get that set up for you. When should I schedule my child’s appointment?
Many of our young patients are involved in all kinds of extracurriculars and school-related activities, so we understand that it can be difficult to squeeze routine dental care into your family’s busy schedule. However, if your child is elementary school age or younger, we recommend scheduling early morning appointments for them if possible. We find that younger children are more willing to follow instructions and cooperate with our team during morning appointments. For older children and teens, any time during the day or after school works well, it just depends on your child and their schedule.

My child is scared of the dentist, what can I do to help them?
If your child experiences dental anxiety, they are certainly not alone. Many children and adults are scared to visit the dentist, and you are already helping your child by bringing them to a pediatric dental practice that caters to the unique needs of children. We always recommend that parents have positive discussions with their children about the importance of dentistry, and why routine dental visits are such a big part of keeping their teeth and gums clean and healthy. Our gentle dental team is also very patient with anxious children, and we like to explain our methods and talk about our dental tools in a kid-friendly way. If your child experiences dental anxiety regardless, dental sedation can often be very helpful for relieving anxious thoughts and feelings.

Can I bring my child in without an appointment?
You are welcome to visit our practice before your child’s first appointment so that they can get a feel for our practice and meet our dental team. We find that trial runs can make things less stressful and intimidating for kids, and they may start to really look forward to their first appointment with our team! Tots to Teens Pediatric Dentistry also accepts emergency walk-in appointments, so if your child needs to see a dentist right away, they do not have to wait for their next appointment. We just ask that you call our front office to let us know that you are on your way so that we can clear our schedule and begin preparing a treatment room for them. Dental Emergencies
